PeerJ partners with Associação Brasileira de Bioinformática e Biologia Computacional for two special issues
PeerJ is delighted to partner with Associação Brasileira de Bioinformática e Biologia Computacional (AB3C) for two special issues stemming from their 2020 X-Meeting.
AB3C is dedicated to advancing the understanding of living things through formal, multidisciplinary and quantitative methods on a large scale, with a commitment to the development of multidisciplinary efforts to advance the scientific understanding of biological phenomena in Brazil, Latin America and other parts of the world. Serving Brazilian society and the international community, the society organizes scientific meetings and distributes information on education, training and jobs in related fields.
PeerJ/AB3C Special Issues
Submissions are now open for two special issues:
(Special Issue 1) AB3C: Bioinformatics community action against the COVID-19 pandemic
We welcome submissions on COVID-19 and the Coronavirus pandemic to the PeerJ/AB3C COVID-19 Special Issue. AB3C members are encouraged to submit research relevant to the pandemic in Brazil and globally. As for all COVID-19 submissions to PeerJ, Article Processing Charges will be waived for all accepted submissions. Submissions should be made until january 30, 2022 and can be made to PeerJ Life & Environment or PeerJ Computer Science. Authors should review the relevant submission instructions before submitting and we ask that, when submitting, they add a note stating “Submitted to the AB3C COVID-19 Special Issue” in the Confidential Note to Staff field of the submission form. All accepted articles will be published on a dedicated AB3C COVID-19.
All submitted manuscripts, before deadline extension, will continue to follow the peer process normally. Upon acceptance it will be published at PeerJ website, even before the submission ends.

(Special Issue 2) Bioinformatics and systems biology approaches applied in biotechnology, health and agriculture issues
The second special issue will focus on providing a report on Bioinformatics Research being developed at Brazil, the topics will cover the different research topics currently being develop by AB3C fellows.
In an effort to minimise the impact of publication costs as a barrier to open access, PeerJ and AB3C have come up with an innovative solution that provides options for AB3C members when it comes to paying publication costs:
Discounted APC
PeerJ is delighted to offer a $250 discount on APCs to AB3C members submitting to Special Issue 2 - Bioinformatics and systems biology approaches applied in biotechnology, health and agriculture issues which will be matched by a $250 contribution by AB3C. Authors will be required to make up the remaining $695 (and pay any additional charges incurred e.g. for articles longer than 40 pages). Author’s choosing this payment option will be invited to submit by the X-Meeting committee and should contact PeerJ (
PeerJ Lifetime Membership
We would also encourage AB3C members to consider choosing a PeerJ Lifetime Membership, our long-term and sustainable alternative to APCs. For a one-time payment, starting at $399, authors receive lifetime publishing privileges; the only requirement is that all authors on a paper are PeerJ Lifetime Members. You can read more about PeerJ Lifetime Membership here. After discussions with the AB3C Executive Committee we understand that this cost may be prohibitive for graduate students (undertaking Master’s Degrees of PhDs) and thus we have agreed that in situations where authors choose PeerJ Lifetime Membership and have student co-authors, AB3C will make a $250 contribution in lieu of the students purchasing Lifetime Memberships, that will cover the costs of all graduate students publishing authors.
We urge all authors considering submitting to Special Issue 2 -Bioinformatics and systems biology approaches applied in biotechnology, health and agriculture issues to contact PeerJ to discuss the most cost-effective options for their article before they submit.
Authors should review the relevant submission instructions before submitting and we ask that, when submitting, they add a note stating “Submitted to the AB3C” in the Confidential Note to Staff field of the submission form. All accepted articles will be published on a dedicated AB3C Special Issue 2 - Bioinformatics and systems biology approaches applied in biotechnology, health and agriculture issues Collection page.
